This course provides a comprehensive examination of two leading employment practice models: Individual Placement and Support (IPS) and Customised Employment (CE). Participants will explore the core principles, methodologies, and applications of each model and engage in critical discussions to understand their similarities, differences, and potential integrations. The course is designed for employment practitioners, organisational leaders, and policymakers who aim to implement or refine these approaches to enhance employment outcomes for people with disabilities.

Course Objectives

• Gain a detailed understanding of the IPS and CE models.
• Compare the key features and benefits of each model.
• Discuss the practical implementation and challenges associated with both IPS and CE.
• Identify opportunities for integrating IPS and CE to create personalised employment pathways.
• Encourage critical reflection and discussion on the effectiveness of these models.

This short course will examine the rationale for individualised approaches to employment. It will look at the two accepted approaches to individualised employment support: Individual Placement and Support and Customised Employment. Both practice models will be compared and contrasted to provide participants with a basic understanding of the approaches, their strengths and weaknesses, and target groups.

Course participants will develop an understanding that will allow them to make an informed choice on which model to use when supporting clients.
