This is where you will find disability employment professional development programs, resources and books. Our store is where you can purchase Customised Employment training and development and also find free resources.
Our annual Think Tank will return to Oscar's on the Yarra, Warburton.
Date: Tuesday 24th October - 26th October inclusive (we meet on Monday night, 23rd October, for an informal dinner before getting busy on Tuesday morning).
Venue: Oscars on the Yarra, Warburton, VIC.
In 2022, we focused on disability employment policy. This year, we'll go back to basics and look at practice and innovation. We'll explore what people are doing and what innovation is happening under the influence of the NDIS, ADE and DES reforms. Importantly, we will also explore organisational culture at the provider and employer levels to discuss its impact on practice fidelity within service providers and why understanding culture is an important aspect of job development.
Here's the final agenda.
DAY ONE.
1. Discovery Examined. We pull apart Discovery and look at outcome measures that can be inserted in a revised Discovery document and new tools for working with clients with mental illness.
2. Group Guided Discovery, its use with different client cohorts and the impact of the Blueprint for Employment.
3. Evidence and Research. Tim Riesen from Utah State will join us to discuss the latest research and the state of evidence. You also have the opportunity to contribute to the next stage of the disability employment outcome measure, along with the development of the mental health employment skills matrix.
4. The Emerging Employment Counsellor Profession. It's role in supporting employment and family.
DAY TWO.
1. Service Delivery. We pull a part Customised Employment, the skills, knowledge and structure needed to deliver effective Customised Employment services. June Alexander will look at where employment practice falls down, what we need to do to move to professionalism in practice and what needs to be changed. June will also discuss instructional techniques supporting client capacity building, such as systematic instruction. No stone will be left unturned.
2. The NDIS will join us to discuss how they fund employment and pathways to improving employment support and outcomes. Let’s clarify some myths about Customised Employment and the NDIS.
DAY THREE.
We finish with a half-day recap and planning session for the future of disability employment practice and research.
We'll also raise a glass to celebrate our official 10-year anniversary. Yes, we've been officially pushing the boat out for ten years this October!
Accommodation: Maximum room capacity of 22 rooms on-site, plus we have eight overflow rooms nearby with a group shuttle arranged.
Meals: Included in your accommodation pricing (we've arranged a great meal package, and the food is very good). We cover the cost of a BBQ lunch on the last day as a thank you for contributing to the discussions. We'll be dining at a new location for our night out, and If the weather is kind, later beside the river, a roaring campfire and a marshmallow burning with wine!
What to bring: a comfortable outdoor chair if you wish, an open mind, a hat and a willingness to share and discuss ideas.
Cost: $900.
Once registered for the Retreat, you must book and pay separately for your room and meals package. This link will be supplied automatically when your registration has been paid. All rooms are allocated first-come, with rooms set aside for people with disabilities on site.
Activities: It's not all work and no play. Last Retreat, we headed off to The Yarra Valley Dairy, Four Pillars Distillery and the Yarra Valley Chocolatier and then dinner thanks to Jimmy Brisket. To simplify things, we've included the dinner cost in the Retreat registration (drinks are on you, of course).
Feel free to email Peter if you have any questions. Preference will be given to returning guests.
