How we handle your information

Privacy policy.

The Centre collects very little personal information, and almost all of it is information you have chosen to send us. This page sets out what we hold, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

In short: we do not sell information, we do not add enquiries to a mailing list, and we do not use tracking or advertising cookies on this site. If you want to know what we hold about you, email enquiries@cderp.com.au and we will tell you.

Who we are

This policy applies to the Centre for Disability Employment Research and Practice (CDERP) and to this website, cderp.com.au. It is written to meet our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

CDERP College operates at college.cderp.com.au and handles student records under its own arrangements. All Abilities Agency is a separate organisation with its own privacy policy. If you follow a link to either, you leave this site and their terms apply.

What we collect

From this website, we collect only what you type into the enquiry form:

Your name, and your organisation if you give one
Your email address, and your phone number if you give one
Your preferred method of reply
What you tell us your enquiry is about
Any access needs or adjustments you choose to tell us about

Our web host records standard server information such as IP addresses and pages requested, which is used to keep the site running and secure. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not build profiles of visitors.

In the course of consulting, training and research work we may also hold contact details for people at client organisations, and information provided to us under a written agreement. That information is governed by the agreement covering the work.

Why we collect it

To answer your enquiry, to deliver work you have engaged us for, and to keep a record of what was asked and what we said. That is all. We do not add enquiries to a mailing list, and we do not send marketing on the basis of an enquiry.

Access needs information

The enquiry form invites you to tell us about access needs or adjustments. This is optional, and you decide how much to say.

Information about disability is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and attracts stronger protection. We use what you tell us for one purpose: to make the conversation work for you. We do not record it against you beyond the enquiry, we do not pass it on, and you can ask us to delete it at any point while keeping the rest of your enquiry on foot.

Research and evaluation data

The Centre’s research and evaluation work is separate from this website. Where a project collects information from participants, it does so under its own consent process, its own participant information, and where applicable the approval of a human research ethics committee. Published findings are reported so that individuals cannot be identified.

Instruments such as DERS and FERS gather people’s experience of a service. Where a provider uses them, the provider is responsible for how that information is collected and held, under their own privacy obligations.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for marketing.

We share information only where it is necessary: with the service providers who run our email and website infrastructure, with a client organisation where you have asked us to work with them, and where the law requires it. Some of our service providers store data outside Australia, which is ordinary for email and web hosting.

How long we keep it

Enquiries are kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards so we have a record of the conversation, then deleted. Records relating to engaged work are kept for as long as our professional and legal obligations require.

We hold information on systems with access controls and encryption in transit. No system is perfect, and we do not claim otherwise.

Your rights

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, or to delete it. Email enquiries@cderp.com.au or call 1300 001 349. We will respond within 30 days, and there is no charge for asking.

You can deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym where it is practical to do so. If you would rather not use the form, email or call, or have someone contact us on your behalf.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us first: email enquiries@cderp.com.au and we will acknowledge within five business days and respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
